A Lifeline for Les

Les

Les can continue to live independently in his home thanks to the nutritious meals and wellness checks Meals on Wheels San Antonio provides.

Les, 79 years old, started receiving home—delivered meals with his then-wife right before the pandemic in February 2020.

Now a widower, Les lives alone on the northwest side of San Antonio. He struggles to cook due to knee issues and a past stroke, so he depends on the service for proper nourishment.

Les has lived in his home in San Antonio for over 35 years. He spent 47 years working on a ranch before his wife became sick, and he focused on taking care of her until she passed. Meals on Wheels has been Les’ primary nourishment source since the meal delivery service began.

Les says the meals “are great—delicious, and they help because it’s hard when you get old.” His favorite is tamales with beans and corn, and while he says he is “not too good at eating veggies,” he enjoys the mixed vegetables.

The Meals on Wheels meal delivery service has helped make Les’ life easier with the added nutrition and the friendly visits from our drivers and volunteers. With every delivery, “you get to see somebody, and you can talk to them for a few minutes.” Because of your support, Les can continue to live independently in his home while receiving proper nutrition and wellness checks, through services from Meals on Wheels.

Your future support ensures that Meals on Wheels has resources to provide lifesaving services to Les and other homebound seniors in the community. Contact Vinsen Faris at 210-735-5115 or VinsenF@mowsatx.org to learn about your giving options.
