Imagine one day you’re walking across your living room and you accidently fall. You can’t get up and you don’t know what to do. Recently, Sandra Forgy, an 83-year-old Meals on Wheels client, had to endure this. As she tried to crawl across the room to reach the phone, she said to herself, “I’m so tired, I can’t go any further.”

Sandra didn’t think anyone was going to find her, but luckily, thanks to your support, Sandra no longer has to wonder. She knows that because of her Meals on Wheels delivery someone will be knocking on the door every day putting her at ease.

Sandra loves food but is no longer able to cook so she began receiving her daily Meals on Wheel delivery in 2013. “It’s been marvelous to be able to receive the meals” she says. Because of the healthy, nutritious meal, her doctor recently took her off diabetic medicine.

Sandra also loves to read and says, “I read more than anything else.” Her love of reading is obvious as you walk into her house where you immediately see a large bookcase that takes up the whole wall filled with books and pictures of her family. She shares what she’s currently reading and other personal stories with her weekly Friendly Visitor volunteer, a Meals on Wheels San Antonio program designed to help with social isolation.

Like many who receive meals, Sandra feels fortunate to have Meals on Wheels care for her. “It has made my days and weeks and years.”
